RACI ANCQ Scholarship

To celebrate the success of the RACI Australian National Chemistry Quiz in achieving, for the first time over 100,000 entries in the quiz in 1999, $20,000 was donated from the RACI Australian National Chemistry Quiz funds to the Charles Sturt University Foundation so that the RACI Australian National Chemistry Quiz became a ‘Governor’ of the Foundation. The money was used by the foundation to set up a named scholarship ‘The RACI Australian National Chemistry Quiz’ scholarship to be awarded annually to a first year student in the School of Public Health.

The cheque of $20,000 was handed over to Professor Peter Hodgson, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Foundation Secretary by Past President, Professor David Black at a function held at Charles Sturt University in September 1999. The donation acknowledges the enormous contribution that Charles Sturt University (previously Mitchell College of Advanced Education) has made to the running of the RACI Australian National Chemistry Week and in particular the RACI Australian National Chemistry Quiz.

The Australian National Chemistry Quiz is a unique chemical education activity. It provides a major focus for secondary school students on the relevance of chemistry in an exciting and stimulating way. Much of the success of the Quiz rests with the teachers who promote and run the Quiz in their schools and the coordinators who help organize the Quiz in their countries.
